Da kommt den Rüsselsheimern, die jetzt aus Paris dirigiert werden, das erste in Zusammenarbeit mit Peugeot-Citroën entwickelte Modell gerade recht.
Der Crossland ersetzt in Opels Modellpalette den Meriva, folgt aber nicht dessen Konzept mit den gegenläufig angeschlagenen Fondtüren. Nur die außergewöhnliche Variabilität des Crossland erinnert noch an einen Van. Optisch ist er ein SUV und damit ein Konkurrent eines Citroën C3 Aircross (mit dem er sich die Plattform teilt), Fiat 500 X,Mini Countryman, Peugeot 2008 oder Renault Captur.
Der Innenraum des 4,21 Meter langen, 1,77 Meter breiten und 1,61 Meter hohen Opels erweist sich als vielseitig nutzbar. Die Rückbank lässt sich verschieben. Dadurch steht entweder mehr Beinfreiheit oder Kofferraum zur Verfügung. Der fällt mit 410 Liter Volumen ordentlich aus.
Bei der Bedienung und den Sitzen (eine Empfehlung: die Gesundheitssitze) und mit seiner modernen Sicherheitsausstattung ist der SUV ein typischer Opel. Mit der angenehm straffen Abstimmung ebenso. Leistung und Fahrverhalten
Der Crossland fährt sich, obwohl Opel nun zu Peugeot gehört, wie ein Produkt aus Rüsselsheim. Die Abstimmung von Dämpfern und Federn fühlt sich straff an, trotzdem geht der Komfort nicht flöten. Ein Opel Mokka X saust ihm vielleicht davon, aber auch der wendige Crossland lässt sich dynamisch bewegen.
An der Bauhöhe liegt es, dass er in schnellen Kurven mehr wankt als ein Kombi. Auf Langstrecke fällt das dank der guten Dämmung niedrige Geräuschniveau im Innenraum auf.
Platz und Praxistauglichkeit
Der Opel Crossland schaut sich aus den Fahrzeugkategorien Van und SUV das Beste ab. Vom Meriva den Van und vom Mokka X den SUV mit leichtem Zustieg, erhöhter Sitzposition und dem guten Überblick über das Verkehrsgeschehen.
Hinten offeriert der Crossland Flexibilität, weil mit der um 15 Zentimeter verschiebbaren Rückbank entweder in der vordersten Position mehr Kofferraum oder in der hintersten Stellung mehr Beinfreiheit zur Verfügung steht. Damit ist das Problem, dass große Menschen in der 4,20-Meter-Klasse im Fond nicht bequem sitzen, vom Tisch. Nur die Beinauflage fällt etwas kurz aus und viel Seitenhalt wird nicht geboten.
Das Smartphone lässt sich ganz einfach via Apple CarPlay oder Android Auto andocken und auch kabellos via Induktion laden. Mit dem integrierten OnStar-Modul wird der SUV aus Rüsselsheim zum mobilen WLAN-Hotspot. Die Bedienung über den acht Zoll großen Touchscreen und die Schalter drumherum geht einfach vonstatten.
Wem die Ziffern auf dem Tacho etwas zu klein erscheinen, der bestellt das Head-up Display. Dieses projiziert das aktuelle Tempo und die Navigationshinweise allerdings nicht auf die Frontscheibe, sondern nur auf ein kleines Scheibchen auf der Armaturenbrettoberseite.
Aus den 4,21 Metern Länge holt der Crossland viel Kofferraum heraus. Der Gepäckraum bietet, wenn die Rückbank ganz nach hinten gerückt ist, ein Basisvolumen von 410 Liter. Wird die Bank maximal in Richtung Vordersitze verschoben, sind es 520 Liter. Werden die Rückbanklehnen umgeklappt, fasst der über die nicht zu hohe Ladekante gut zugängliche Laderaum 1.255 Liter.
Innenraum, Infotainment und Ausstattung
Die Preisliste des Crossland fällt mit 30 Seiten für die Fahrzeugklasse lang aus. Im Angebot befinden sich allerhand Extras, Ausstattungspakete und vier Ausstattungslinien.
Das Basismodell Selection ist ohne Klimaanlage noch nicht ganz alltagsgerecht ausgestattet, aber sicherheitstechnisch zumindest gut mit dem Müdigkeitswarner, dem passiven Spurassistenten, dem LED-Tagfahrlicht, der Verkehrsschilderkennung, dem Tempomat und dem Radio mit Bluetooth-Freisprecheinrichtung.
Im Edition kommen an zusätzlicher Ausstattung Opels OnStar-System mit WLAN-Hotspot, das Radio mit 7-Zoll-Touchscreen und Smartphone-Integration, 16-Zoll-Leichtmetallräder, elektrische Fensterheber rundum, das Lederlenkrad und die wichtige Klimaanlage hinzu.
Im Innovation sind das Dach und die Außenspiegel fesch in Kontrastfarbe lackiert. Außerdem rollt der Crossland Innovation mit LED-Rückleuchten, Nebelscheinwerfern, Regensensor, Zwei-Zonen-Klimaautomatik und zweifach höhenverstellbarem Gepäckraumboden aus dem Verkaufsraum.

Möchte man in einer Ausstattungslinie fehlende Extras ergänzen, erfordert dies nicht nur wegen der langen Preisliste einiges an Lektürezeit und Muße, denn alles lässt sich nicht miteinander kombinieren oder es versteckt sich in einem Paket. Am guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis des Meriva-Nachfolgers ändert das allerdings nichts.
Kraftstoffverbrauch, CO2-Ausstoß und Abgasnorm
Die Motoren sind nicht die aus Rüsselsheim gewohnten, denn sie stammen aus französischer Produktion. Die 81 bis 130 PS starken Benziner und Diesel werden mit einem Fünfgang- oder Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe mit etwas langen Schaltwegen oder der Sechsgang-Automatik verwaltet.
Die Benziner
Zur Wahl steht ein Dreizylinder-Benziner mit 1,2 Liter Hubraum und 81, 110 oder 130 PS. Später kommt noch ein mit Gas (LPG) betriebener Motor auf den Markt.
Die 81-PS-Version ist das Einstiegsmodell und das lässt es einen sowohl in der Ausstattung (keine Klimaanlage) als auch in den Fahrleistungen spüren.
Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 170 km/h und der Verbrauch von 5,1 l/100 km (Werksangabe) gehen in Ordnung, aber die 14,0 Sekunden, die für den Spurt von 0 auf 100 vergehen, machen den 110-PS- oder 130-PS-Motor vielleicht doch zu besseren Wahl.
Beide verbrauchen weniger (4,8 und 5,0 l), leisten mehr (205 und 230 Nm versus 118 Nm) und bewegen den Crossland flotter. Der eine läuft 188 km/h, der andere 206 km/h Spitze. Der eine beschleunigt in 10,6 Sekunden, der andere in 9,1 Sekunden aus dem Stand auf 100. Dass der Dreizylinder von Peugeot auch wie einer klingt, das ist bei Peugeot-Opel so. An den herausragenden Dreizylinder-Turbobenziner von Ford kommen sie in französisch Hessen noch nicht heran.
Die Diesel
Der sparsamste Motor im Crossland, der 1.6 ECOTEC Diesel, verbraucht in der Papierform nur 3,6 l/100 km. Damit hält ein 45-Liter-Tank eine ganze Weile. Mit dem 99-PS-Diesel ohne ECOTEC mit 3,9 l/100 km allerdings ebenso.
Die beiden Varianten senden mit 254 Nm bei 1.750 U/min ordentlich Kraft an die Vorderräder und kriegen das mit dem 100er-Spurt in 11,6 und 12,0 Sekunden hin. Bei gleicher Maximalgeschwindigkeit von 180 km/h. Der 1,6-Liter-Diesel mit 120 PS Leistung und 300 Nm Drehmoment schafft 187 km/h, erspurtet in 9,9 Sekunden die 100 und verbraucht mit 4,0 l/100 km trotzdem wenig.
Sicherheit und Schutz
Die Auswahl an Assistenzsystemen ist im Opel Crossland groß. Zu den Dingen, welche die Fahrt sicherer und entspannter machen, gehören die Voll-LED-Scheinwerfer, die 180-Grad-Panorama-Rückfahrkamera, der Müdigkeitswarner und der automatische Parkassistent genauso wie der akustisch warnende Spurassistent, die Verkehrsschilderkennung und der Toter-Winkel-Warner.
Darüber hinaus ist für den Crossland auch ein Frontkollisionswarner mit automatischer Gefahrenbremsung und Fußgängererkennung erhältlich. Allerdings werden Systeme wie ein Radar-Tempomat oder ein in die Lenkung eingreifender aktiver Spurhalteassistent gar nicht angeboten.
